Corten Steel Modular Raised Bed Planters — Build Any Size, Any Layout
Not every garden fits a standard planter.

The Edensteel CortenGrid system gives you the freedom to create raised beds, planting borders, and landscaping features in exactly the dimensions and configuration your space requires — without compromising on material quality or finish.

Straight modular sections pair directly with our matching CortenGrid modular corner planter sections, so you can build rectangular, L-shaped, U-shaped, or entirely custom planting layouts from the same system. Whether you're creating a single kitchen garden raised bed or a series of tiered planting zones across a large landscape, the Edensteel CortenGrid system scales to suit.

Why Modular Bed Planters?

Pre-formed planters are limited by their fixed dimensions — they come in set sizes and shapes, and if your space doesn't match, you either compromise or go bespoke at significant cost. The CortenGrid modular system solves this.

By combining straight sections and corner units, you define the footprint. Want a 3-metre run along a wall? Two 1500mm sections. Need a deep raised bed at 600mm height for vegetables? Select the 600mm height across whatever length you need. Need to go around a corner or create an enclosed bed? Add corner units. It also means the system works in spaces where a single fabricated planter simply cannot be delivered or positioned — narrow side gates, stepped gardens, walled courtyards.

Why Corten Steel for Raised Beds?

Corten is an ideal material for raised beds and planters because it is specifically engineered to weather outdoors without deteriorating. As it is exposed to rain and air, the surface forms a stable, self-sealing rust-coloured patina that protects the steel beneath — stopping corrosion at the surface rather than allowing it to penetrate. In a raised bed context, this matters because the material is in constant contact with damp soil and varying conditions. Standard mild steel would require painting or sealing and would eventually corrode through. Corten does not. Practically, this means:

  • No painting, sealing, or annual treatment required
  • No flaking or crumbling into the soil over time
  • A finish that deepens and enriches with every season, from bright amber to a warm, settled brown
  • Structural integrity maintained for decades in direct contact with soil and the British climate

Handmade in Britain — 25 Years of Steel Manufacturing

Every CortenGrid section is fabricated by hand at our UK workshop using 2mm structural-grade Corten steel — the same specification used in architectural and commercial landscaping projects. This is not lightweight imported steel. The 2mm gauge gives each section the rigidity to hold its shape under the sustained lateral pressure of a filled raised bed without bowing or distorting.

All Edensteel Corten products carry an 8-year structural warranty. If anything structural fails within that period, we will put it right.

For Homeowners, Gardeners, Designers & Landscapers

The CortenGrid modular planter system is used across residential gardens, commercial developments, rooftop terraces, and large landscaping projects. The consistent 4-week made-to-order lead time makes it straightforward to schedule into project timelines, and custom lengths and heights are available for non-standard requirements. CortenGrid Modular Planter — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the CortenGrid system?

CortenGrid is Edensteel's modular raised bed and planter system. Straight sections and corner units are designed to connect together, allowing you to build raised beds in any rectangular or angled configuration. You select the lengths and heights you need; the sections combine to form your layout.

Do I need corner units as well?

If you want to form an enclosed raised bed or turn a corner, yes — corner units are required and are available as a separate listing. If you are creating a straight border or run against a wall, straight sections alone may be sufficient depending on your design.

What height should I choose for a raised bed?

The 200mm height suits shallow borders and low-profile edging. The 400mm height is a popular choice for general planting and ornamental beds. The 600mm height is well suited to vegetable growing and accessible raised beds, reducing the need to bend when planting and tending.

Will Corten steel harm my plants or soil?

Corten steel is widely used in horticultural and commercial planting applications. The patina that forms on the surface is stable and does not leach harmful compounds into the soil in normal use. It is a standard material for raised beds in professional landscape design.

Does the Corten patina stain adjacent surfaces?

During the initial weathering period, some surface run-off may occur. We recommend positioning planters on gravel, paving, or surfaces where temporary staining is not a concern, or protecting adjacent surfaces until the patina stabilises.

Can I order non-standard sizes?

Yes. We can produce modular sections in custom lengths and heights to suit your project. Contact us with your requirements and we will provide a quote and lead time.

How long does delivery take?

All sections are made to order with an approximate 4-week lead time. Free kerbside delivery is included on all UK orders.

Why We Recommend Corten Steel

Corten steel is one of the most reliable and visually striking materials you can use outdoors. It combines strength, stability, and a naturally evolving finish that gives every piece its own character. Designers, landscapers and proud gardeners choose it because it lasts, it performs, and it looks better year after year.

Built to Last Outdoors

Corten steel is designed to live outside. As it weathers, the surface forms a protective layer that stops further corrosion, so it won’t flake, crumble, or deteriorate like standard mild steel. It’s made for the British climate and keeps its structural integrity for decades, even in tough conditions.

Low-Maintenance by Nature

Once the patina has settled, Corten steel looks after itself. There’s no painting, sealing, or upkeep needed. The finish deepens in colour and character as the seasons change, creating a warm, natural look that evolves beautifully.

Long-Lasting and Sustainable

Corten steel has an exceptionally long lifespan and is fully recyclable, making it a durable and considered choice for outdoor projects of all sizes. Choosing Corten means choosing a material that performs well, reduces waste, and supports long-term, sustainable design.

Versatile for Every Kind Of Space

From planters and edging to architectural features, screens, water elements, and statement pieces, Corten steel works across residential gardens, courtyards, commercial developments, and landscaped spaces.

Our Corten Steel Warranty

Corten steel is built to last, which is why our Corten range includes an 8-year structural warranty - for added peace of mind.
