How to Install Modular Planters

Our Eden corner modular planters are manufactured from 2 mm structural-grade Corten steel as standard. You can choose between a pre-weathered finish, with its rich orange-brown patina, or un-weathered steel, allowing the natural ageing process to develop over time.

This thickness offers excellent strength and durability, making our planters suitable for both domestic and commercial landscaping. For larger projects or enhanced structural performance, bespoke thicknesses up to 6 mm are available on request.

Designed to integrate seamlessly with our straight modular planter sections, the Eden corners allow you to create fully custom raised beds in almost any configuration. All necessary fixings and connectors are supplied, making assembly straightforward and secure.

Installing Your Modular Planters

To create a modular raised bed, you’ll typically need:

  • Two or more straight sections
  • One internal corner
  • One external corner

The more sections you add, the larger and more flexible your layout becomes.

Each planter section features hidden structural ribs on the reverse, providing additional rigidity and allowing sections to be bolted together cleanly using the pre-drilled holes and supplied fixings.

Drainage holes are included in the base, and for best results we recommend installing your planters on level ground or a firm substrate.

Materials & Build Quality

All Edensteel modular planters are made from 100% genuine, certified Corten steel, also known as weathering steel. This material is renowned for:

  • Exceptional corrosion resistance

  • High tensile strength

  • Long service life with zero coatings required

For projects that demand even greater longevity or structural performance, we can manufacture Eden corner sections in bespoke thicknesses up to 6 mm, ideal for commercial or public landscaping environments.

We also offer a rustic patina steel range, which provides a similar aesthetic at a lower cost, although it does not offer the same long-term durability as true Corten.

How Our Modular Planters Are Made

All Edensteel modular planters are designed and manufactured in the UK by our skilled fabrication team.

The process includes:

  1. Precision laser cutting for accurate profiles

  2. Specialist folding machinery to form clean, sharp edges

  3. Structural ribs welded to the rear for added strength

  4. Fully seam-welded construction for a flawless finish

Unlike many mass-produced alternatives, our planters feature a double-folded return lip, which:

  • Creates a premium edge detail

  • Increases rigidity and strength

  • Makes handling safer during installation and planting

All welds are carefully dressed and smoothed, resulting in clean, seamless joints with no visible fixings or sharp edges.

Because every piece is handmade, each planter is subtly unique — a quality that complements the natural variation of Corten’s evolving patina.

Lead Times & Delivery

As all our modular planters are made to order, lead times may vary depending on specification and volume.

Our current estimated lead time is 3–4 weeks, although this may be change for urgent or large-scale projects.

We offer free UK delivery on all modular planters, using trusted pallet and parcel couriers to ensure safe and reliable transport.

How Long Does Corten Take to Weather?

Corten steel develops its protective patina through exposure to the elements. The process is most effective in climates with alternating wet and dry conditions — making the UK ideal.

  • Initial colour changes: within days

  • Full patina development: 6–9 months

During this period, some surface runoff may occur, which can temporarily stain surrounding surfaces. This naturally reduces once the patina stabilises.

If you prefer an instant finish, our pre-weathered option delivers the mature Corten look from day one.

Maintenance

One of the biggest advantages of Corten steel is that it is completely maintenance-free.

No painting
No sealing
No coatings

The natural oxide layer protects the steel for decades, even in harsh outdoor environments. Simply install, fill with soil, plant — and enjoy.
